Punjab: 16-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Killed by Mother’s Lover, Burnt Body Found in Forest

A shocking murder case from Nawanshahr has sparked outrage after a 16-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her mother’s lover, who later tried to burn her body in a forest.

A disturbing murder case from Punjab’s Nawanshahr district has triggered massive outrage after a 16-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her mother’s lover, who later attempted to burn her body in a forest area to destroy evidence.

According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Gurvinder Singh. Investigators said the accused allegedly murdered the teenager and later stuffed her body into a suitcase before transporting it to a forest area in neighbouring Hoshiarpur district.

Police sources revealed that the victim had reportedly opposed her mother Usha’s relationship with Gurvinder Singh, which investigators believe may have led to the crime.

The teenager was initially reported missing, following which her mother approached the police and submitted CCTV footage claiming the girl had left home voluntarily. However, during the investigation, officials discovered that the CCTV footage was misleading and actually showed another girl instead of the victim.

Police then began examining CCTV footage from surrounding areas and allegedly spotted Gurvinder Singh travelling on a motorcycle with a suitcase tied to the vehicle.

Investigators said the accused had even accompanied the victim’s mother to the police station during the filing of the missing complaint in an apparent attempt to avoid suspicion.

Following sustained interrogation, Gurvinder Singh allegedly confessed to strangling the teenager to death at her residence on May 29. Police said the accused later transported the body to a forest area in Hoshiarpur district and attempted to burn it to erase evidence.

Authorities later recovered a partially burnt body from the forest area during the investigation. The remains have been sent for forensic examination and further legal procedures.

Punjab Police confirmed that the accused has been arrested and remanded to four days of police custody. Officials stated that further investigation into the case is currently underway.

The shocking incident has sparked widespread public anger across Punjab, with many demanding strict punishment and stronger measures to ensure women’s safety and protection of minors.
